Whatcom County establishes new Food System Committee; committee members sought

Dec 4th, 2018 | Category: News

BELLINGHAM – The County Council recently adopted an ordinance establishing a Food System Committee. The Committee will draft a County-wide food plan, building off of the Whatcom Food Network’s Community Food Assessment. The Food System Committee will consider best practices and make recommendations to the County Council, Executive, Health Board, and other appropriate officials regarding issues relating to our countywide food system. Among the Committee’s priorities is the drafting, implementing, and overseeing of a county-wide food plan. Each committee member would be appointed for four years and should expect to attend at least one committee meeting a month, starting in 2019. The Whatcom County Health Department is in the process of recruiting committee members and is accepting applications through 10 a.m. Jan. 8, 2019. The application can be found online at http://wa-whatcomcounty.civicplus.com/1584/How-to-Apply. For more information, contact Ali Jensen, Whatcom County Health Department Program Specialist, at ajensen@whatcomcounty.us.
