Feb 28th, 2019 | Category: News

MOUNT VERNON – The Friends of Mount Vernon Library will be hosting a Celebration of Local Grains at Hillcrest Lodge on Tuesday, March 5 from 6-8 p.m. This all ages event is free and open to the public, and offers the chance to meet local brewers, bakers, millers and malters. In this special presentation and panel discussion, they will explore the evolution of grain growing and learn about the ways this grain is being processed and used in value added products in the Skagit Valley. This is a chance to learn about what is happening at local businesses, such as The Bread Lab, Anacortes Brewery, Chuckanut Brewery, Skagit Valley Malting and Garden Path Fermentation Project. There will be free samples from Breadfarm and Golden Glen Creamery butter. Attendees ages 21 and over can sample local beers from Anacortes Brewery for a $3 charge (cash only), with all proceeds benefitting The Friends of Mount Vernon Library. The Friends will also have tote bags for sale for $5. Hillcrest Lodge is located at 1717 S 13th Street in Mount Vernon. For more information, contact the Mount Vernon Library at (360) 336-6209.
