The Master Gardener Foundation, Washington, Pend Oreille Chapter is starting a new program at our annual plant sale called Seeds of Hope. We are having a table where free fruit and vegetable seeds are given to local residents, who will pledge to give the fruits and vegetables they grow from these seeds, to our local food bank.
Pend Oreille County is located in Northeast Washington State, it is a small rural community with a very high rate of unemployment and families using assistance programs. Our local food bank is highly utilized and frequently finds itself without any produce for families except potatoes and apples, given by the gleaners group.
Master Gardener Foundation of Washington is part of the Washington State University Extension Program and the Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit corporation. We are about 50 men and women who are dedicated to improving gardening education and helping food become available to those who are in need.
Any donation of seeds or plants will be utilized by those who can most use them. We have a short growing season and many in need do not have land suitable for growing their own foods.
I am in charge of the new Seeds of Hope at the annual plant sale. Any donations can be sent to my address for distribution.

    Thank you,
