Fiber festivals feature local producers on Lopez, Whidbey

WHIDBEY/LOPEZ – The 1st Annual Lopez Lamb & Wool Festival and Matt Dillon Dinner will be held on Saturday, May 14 at the Lopez Community Center (LCCA) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. The event features a sheep drive through Lopez Village, shearing and fleece sale, sheepdog demonstrations, meat-cutting demos, and information about sheep breeds, as well as spinning, weaving, carding, felting, knitting, and dyeing demonstrations. A dinner of Lopez lamb and other Lopez foods prepared by acclaimed chef Matt Dillon of Seattle’s Sitka and Spruce will be available for $35 per adult and $5 for kids 12 and under. The dinner includes a no-host bar of Lopez Island Vineyards wine, with music by Matt, Carol and Eric. Proceeds benefit the Lopez School Farm-to-School Program. On Whidbey Island, the Fiber Quest festival will be held Thursday, May 19 through Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at various locations.
