Spring Jubilee tour features 11 farms, nurseries
May 2nd, 2013 | Category: Community, FarmsSTANWOOD – Presented by the Port Susan Food & Farming Center, Spring Jubilee Farm Tour on May 11-12 is a self-guided tour of nurseries and farms in Silvana, Stanwood and on Camano Island.
The public is invited to meet the community’s food producers, tour their family-owned farms, learn about sustainable growing practices, and taste farm-fresh treats.
“Consumer demand for fresh, locally produced food and farm products continues to grow, along with the desire to understand how food gets from the field to the dinner table. Our farmers are opening their gates to share with consumers how sustainably produced food is grown.” said Autumn Falk, tour committee chair.
Gardeners and flower fans can purchase vegetable starts, culinary herbs, tubers, annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, native trees and shrubs and stock up on fertilizers, garden tools, and gifts. Also available will be farm-raised beef, pork, and poultry as well as honey, fresh eggs, gluten free baked goods, and fruits and vegetables. Plus, there will be a kids’ stop by the Welcome Barn at Skagit Farmers Supply, where they can milk Squirty Gerty, the dairy cow, sponsored by the Snohomish Conservation District.
Farms will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 11 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 12.
