2nd Annual SkillShare Faire to be held Sept. 21-22

Aug 2nd, 2013 | Category: News

FERNDALE – The 2nd Annual Whatcom SkillShare will take place Sept. 21-22. Organizers have moved the event to Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale, and the Faire will feature more short classes, workshops and hands-on demonstrations of a variety of skills, for all ages. Some of the most popular “skillshares” from last year included how to raise rabbits, a portable sawmill demonstration, scything, sharpening tools, beekeeping, basket-making, weaving, gardening and food preservation. New additions this year include a blacksmith, cobbler, and draft horses, as well as a “Fermentation Station”, with demonstrations on how to brew beer, and other fermented items such as sauerkraut and kimchee.  A beer garden featuring local brews will also be open during afternoon and evening hours, and will also feature a line up of local music talent including Quickdraw String Band, Hot Damn Scandal and Swil Kanim. Organizers are currently adding new workshops and demos, and are encouraging anyone who is willing to teach a skill.  For more information, see www.whatcomskillsharefaire.org.
