Eat Local: Month-long events coming up in Skagit, Whatcom

SKAGIT/whatcom – Throughout September, Eat Local programs in Whatcom and Skagit counties will highlight local agriculture and foods. Twenty-five of Mount Vernon’s restaurants will have special menu items, including beverages, which feature Skagit Valley products and showcase local farms. Eat Local, Mount Vernon is a cornerstone event of the 2013 Mount Vernon Mayor’s Wellness Challenge, which is a month-long series of free activities to inspire the community to healthier lifestyles. Eat Local, Mount Vernon is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Community Marketing Campaign, which includes the City of Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Mount Vernon School District, Port of Skagit, Skagit Regional Health, Skagit Valley College. In Whatcom, the Eat Local Month is organized by Sustainable Connections, and includes the 6th annual Whatcom Farm Tour featuring 11 stops. Restaurants participate in eat local programs, feature various foods from Whatcom County and regional farms and producers. Additional information will be in our September issue.
