Packinghouse ordinance: Another public hearing in September

Aug 2nd, 2013 | Category: News

WHATCOM – Another public hearing regarding the packinghouse/slaughterhouse ordinance in Whatcom County will be held some time in September, according to the Whatcom County Planning Department. The Whatcom County Council held a public hearing Tuesday, July 23 and took over two hours of public comments about the zoning amendment to allow packinghouses in the Agricultural Zoning District. The Council voted to hold another public hearing. Due to the meeting schedule, the hearing would be no earlier than Sept. 10. The Council agreed to change the maximum allowed size of a packinghouse from 30,000 to 20,000 square feet; those under 7,000 square feet would not require a public hearing.
