Fundraiser set for Growing Veterans, VFW Post 1585; Ground Operations screening Sept. 25

WHATCOM – The 1st Annual Veterans Benefit and Silent Auction will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 with proceeds going toward Growing Veterans and local VFW Post 1585. Growing Veterans is a non-profit  organization dedicated to providing veterans with farming opportunities, training and networking. The benefit starts at 5:30 p.m. at WWU. Some of the greens on the menu come from the Growing Veterans farm, outside of Lynden. Tickets can be reserved online at In addition, the group has partnered with the national campaign, Ground Operations, to have three screenings in Washington state, including a showing on Sept. 25 at Western Washington University, Room AW-204, from 7 to 9 p.m. The documentary shares the stories of veterans and the future of farming. The film’s producer, Dulanie Ellis, will do a Q&A about the film and social action campaign to strengthen the national network of veterans in agriculture. The event is hosted by Transition Whatcom.
