WHATCOM – The 1st Annual Veterans Benefit and Silent Auction will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 with proceeds going toward Growing Veterans and local VFW Post 1585. Growing Veterans is a non-profit  organization dedicated to providing veterans with farming opportunities, training and networking. The benefit starts at 5:30 p.m. at WWU. Some of the greens on the menu come from the Growing Veterans farm, outside of Lynden. Tickets can be reserved online at  http://bit.ly/vetdinner. In addition, the group has partnered with the national campaign, Ground Operations, to have three screenings in Washington state, including a showing on Sept. 25 at Western Washington University, Room AW-204, from 7 to 9 p.m. The documentary shares the stories of veterans and the future of farming. The film’s producer, Dulanie Ellis, will do a Q&A about the film and social action campaign to strengthen the national network of veterans in agriculture. The event is hosted by Transition Whatcom.
