San Juan livestock workshop covers basic care, cooking and more

SAN JUAN ISLAND – A special Livestock Workshop for all interested and experienced livestock producers will take place Saturday, Feb. 8 at Friday Harbor Brickworks on San Juan Island. Topics will cover the care of sheep, goats, cows, pigs, chickens, and rabbits on small acreage, including housing, nutrition, feed, health, parasites, butchering, and more. Participants can meet one-on-one with WSU livestock specialist Dr. Susan Kerr and local experts on each species. Cooking with grass-fed meats and sausage making will also be covered. The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the cost is $35 per adult or $15 per student with breakfast drinks, snacks and lunch included.
