Master Gardener Plant Sales coming up this month

May 2nd, 2014 | Category: Growing

The Master Gardener Plant Sales spring up each May, with visitors and residents seeking out thousands of plants and starts, while getting much appreciated advice from the Master Gardeners themselves about all aspects of growing and having a variety of “What is this?!” questions answered face to face. All sales benefit the Master Gardener chapters and their related activities by county. Following are the local sales in chronological order.

The Snohomish County Master Gardener Sale is Saturday, May 3. An extensive selection of perennials, shrubs, trees, berries, and grasses will be available for sale, as well as their famous selection of tomato varieties – old favorites, new varieties, heritage plants and more. This year, we will have 8,000 tomato, herb and vegetable starts. Talk with master gardeners and visit with specialty nursery, gift and garden art vendors. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as WSU Snohomish County Extension, 600 128th St. SE, McCollum Park South Everett. See www.snomgf.org for more details or call (425) 357-6010.

The Skagit County Master Gardener Foundation Annual Plant Fair is Saturday, May 10. Over 2,500 varieties of tomatoes, veggie and flower starts, native plants, perennials, herbs, trees, and shrubs, and Mother’s Day gifts will be on site. Educational booths, art, food, plant and other vendors, as well as Master Gardener helping with gardening questions, will be available to visitors from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors are invited for a $25 booth fee. There is free admission and free parking. The event takes place at the Skagit County Fairgrounds, Building F in Mount Vernon. Also, early day gas engines, classic tractors and antique farm machinery will be on site. For more information, contact Deborah Smeltzer at PlantFair@landingroad.org.

The Master Gardeners Plant Sale & Garden Fair is Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale. Hundreds of homegrown perennials, shrubs, vegetables, herbs, starts, heirloom tomatoes, hanging baskets, gift ideas and more will be on site. The Master Gardener booth will be open for questions and answers, and a kids station offers small planters and other fun. Local food and crafts will be available, and local displays from organizations, too.

San Juan

The Master Gardeners’ Spring Plant Sale 2014 will be Saturday, May 10 at the Mullis Senior Center in Friday Harbor from 9 a.m. to noon. Again this year – home grown vegetable starts from your local Master Gardeners – tomatoes, peppers, squashes, cucumbers, brassicas, herbs. Also perennials dug from master gardeners’ flower beds, all potted up for you to stick into the ground at your home. An added attraction will be the Friday Harbor Animal Shelter Bake Sale, so you can snack and shop at the same time. For more information, contact Alice Deane at tedalicedeane@rockisland.com or call (360) 378-5250.

The Island County Master Gardener Foundation Plant Sale is Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greenbank Farm 765 Wonn Road in Greenbank, Whidbey Island. Perennials, native plants, shrubs, and veggies will be available, as well as the  Master Gardener Plant Clinic to help you solve any plant problems.
