Daffodil Festival officially kicks off

Mar 5th, 2015 | Category: News

The La Conner Daffodil Festival will be held throughout the month of March, kicking off the spring season with fields of blooming daffodils before the April fields of tulips (expected to begin flowering by the end of March).

The mild weather has fields blooming approximately three weeks earlier than usual, and as of the start of the month many daffodils were already in full bloom.

The 1st annual Daffodil Festival will feature a few events this month, including:

• The Dandy Daffodil Tweed Ride on March 28: Join local residents in La Conner and visitors among the daffodil fields for a bicycle ride with a bit of style.  A tweed ride is a return to a bygone era in England when families would dress in their best clothing, assemble a picnic lunch, get on the train with their bicycles and go out to the countryside, riding their bicycles home.

Riders should expect a scenic route enjoyed at a slow pace, stops along the way and plenty of time to socialize with other cyclists. See The Dandy Daffodil website at www.thedandydaffodil.com for registration, route and itinerary.

• MoNA Style – Not Tweeds But Just As Fun! on March 14: MoNA Style will feature more than 40 participating Northwest artists to demonstrate, display, and sell their artwork. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. guests will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at one of the participating restaurants where informal modeling will show off the artists’ creations. Attendees will vote for their favorite artist to receive the People’s Choice award. The public will get a chance to win raffle baskets of prizes from local merchants. See the Museum of Northwest Art (MoNA) website at www.monamuseum.org for more information.

• The Kiwaffodil Celebration Hosted By The La Conner Kiwanis on March 21: The La Conner Kiwanis will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary of Kiwanis. They will be starting the Kiwaffodil celebration by serving pancakes at the La Conner School cafeteria for the “Splash it 4ward” event.

At Maple Hall between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. see the Children’s art exhibit, activities from the Boys and Girls Club, a musical venue from our local school bands, and the Crowning of the King and Queen of Daffodils.

The silent auction  will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to benefit the Bella and the Boys & Girls Club.  The Classical Guitarist, Andre Feriante, will play from 5 to 8 p.m. with Hors d’oeuvres and wine.

• La Conner Daffodil Festival 2015 Photo Contest: Photographers can enter the La Conner Daffodil Festival by posting to facebook with the hashtag #laconnerdaffodils. Officials will then choose the top 10 photos and have the public vote on the winning photograph. The winner will receive a cash prize and be crowned the 2015 La Conner Daffodil Festival Official Photo. The photograph will also be used for publicity for the 2016 Daff Fest.
